WTN Omega-3 Ultra – EPA and DHA supplementation in separate capsules

WTN Omega-3 Ultra is a rethinking of conscious omega-3 supplementation.

The product contains the two main omega-3 fatty acids – EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) – in separate capsules, so their intake can be adjusted simply, flexibly and individually to personal needs.

Since the human body cannot produce DHA and EPA, their intake should be ensured through diet and/or dietary supplements.

The fatty acids used in WTN Omega-3 ULTRA were extracted from high-purity, natural-form fish oil from the North Sea, Norway, so the product represents a modern approach to omega-3 supplementation.

We stabilized it without artificial additives, with natural vitamin E, mixed tocopherols. It contains no synthetic dl-tocopheryl acetate, d-tocopheryl acetate or exclusively isolated alpha-tocopherol.

EPA and DHA occur together in their natural sources – such as marine fish and fish oil – but they play different roles in the body, so research often studies them separately.

EPA capsule – 800 mg pure EPA

• One capsule contains 800 mg of EPA.
• EPA is present almost on its own, with minimal DHA content.
• The scientific literature studies EPA primarily in connection with supporting circulatory processes and general cell function.

DHA capsule – 700 mg pure DHA

• One capsule contains 700 mg of DHA.
• DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function and vision*, and during pregnancy and breastfeeding it supports the normal development of the brain and eyes of the fetus and infant.**

* The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 250 mg of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).
** The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 200 mg of DHA in addition to the recommended daily intake of omega-3 fatty acids for adults (i.e. 250 mg DHA and EPA).

There is a wide choice of omega-3 dietary supplements, so it's worth considering a few points when choosing a product.
The following general guide can help you make an informed decision.

1. The amount of EPA and DHA is decisive

It's not the total amount of fish oil you should look at, but the concentration of omega-3 fatty acids in it – especially EPA and DHA.
On most product labels this is given in milligrams (mg) per capsule.

2. The form of the fish oil – triglyceride or ester

Fish oils can occur in several chemical forms.
The triglyceride form matches the natural structure of fish oil, while the ester form is a technologically modified variant.
The label always states which form the product contains.

3. Interpret marketing claims consciously

Health claims authorized by EFSA, for example for vitamin E:
'Vitamin E contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.'
This claim is only relevant if vitamin E is present in the product as an active ingredient, in an adequate amount.
If vitamin E is only added as a stabilizing or antioxidant ingredient, its amount typically does not reach the level at which the EFSA claim could be stated.
Whether it is included as an active ingredient is indicated by its listing in the nutrition table.

4. What does the TOTOX value mean?

The TOTOX value is a laboratory indicator of the oxidation state, i.e. the freshness, of fish oil.
The lower this value, the less oxidized the product.
However, it's important to know that TOTOX values can be determined at different times – for example at production or at the time of testing – so the data on different labels are not always directly comparable.

NÉBIH's 2022 study also pointed out that labeling practice is not uniform, so this figure alone is not necessarily decisive for consumer choice.

5. Think in terms of value for money

According to NÉBIH's 2022 study, in most omega-3 dietary supplements sold in Hungary the EPA and DHA content matched the amount stated on the label.
That's why it's worth considering value for money too: calculate how much EPA and DHA a serving (or capsule) contains and how many forints that costs.
This way products can be compared objectively, regardless of how many capsules the pack contains.

Summary

A good omega-3 product transparently states the amount of EPA and DHA, gives the form of the fatty acids, and provides realistic information to the user.
The basis of a conscious choice is always objective information, not marketing messages.

Directions for use:

• Recommended amount: 1 (yellow) capsule in the morning and 1 (purple) capsule in the evening a day. Preferably with a meal.

Warning:

• If you take blood thinners or medication affecting blood pressure or blood sugar levels, it is recommended to consult a professional about using the product.
• Diarrhea may occur in case of a sensitive digestive system or excessive fish oil consumption.
• In case of slow stomach emptying, reflux-like symptoms and burping may occur.
• Consuming dietary supplements is not a substitute for a balanced, varied, mixed diet and a healthy lifestyle.
• Do not exceed the recommended daily amount.
• Keep the product out of the reach of children, in a dry, cool, dark place.
• If you are allergic or hypersensitive to any of the product's ingredients, do not use the product!
• It is strongly recommended to take dietary supplements separately from coffee! It is best to take them at least half an hour before drinking coffee, or at least 2 hours after.
